Dr. Alcina Lidder is a board certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who specializes in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma, cataract, and comprehensive eye care. She provides personalized, evidence-based care while helping patients preserve their vision through advancements in medical and surgical treatment.
After graduating magna cum laude with Departmental Honors from Northwestern University for her undergraduate education, she attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry where she was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society for her academic success and for demonstrating characteristics of an excellent physician including compassion, empathy, knowledge, and leadership. For grades received while providing patient care, she additionally received an award that designated her as one of the top five women students of her medical student class. She completed ophthalmology residency and served as Chief Resident at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine and then completed a glaucoma fellowship Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the top eye hospital in the United States – voted #1, the nation’s leading eye hospital, for 25 years – affiliated with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Dr. Lidder has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on glaucoma, cataract surgery, and retinal disease and has participated in clinical research studies focused on advancing patient care. She has given many presentations at local, regional, and national conferences, including at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting and the American Glaucoma Society Annual Meeting to educate the physician community on the diagnosis and management of glaucoma and cataracts.
Prior to joining Chicago Arbor Eye Institute, Dr. Lidder worked at the Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center to advance eye care for veterans and worked as an academic physician in the Department of Ophthalmology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor and Associate Residency Program Director where she taught and mentored ophthalmology fellows, residents, and medical students.
